Fourth’s IT laboratory at New Bulgarian University was presented to the viewers of Bloomberg TV Bulgaria
Christian Berthelsen, CEO of Fourth Bulgaria and Assist. Prof. Kiril Avramov, Vice Rector of New Bulgarian University discussed with Ivaylo Lakov, host of The World is Business, the partnership between Fourth and the university.
Introducing the company, Christian Berthelsen shared that “Bulgaria is a really exciting opportunity for us because we are growing as a company and we have customers all over the world in more than 60 countries. We needed another large technology hub and we chose Bulgaria, and more particularly Sofia, as the place to do that.” He further pointed out that the growth of the company had brought it to the level to “be a credible partner” to an institution like New Bulgarian University. He described the partnership with New Bulgarian University as “groundbreaking” for the company.
Assist. Prof. Kiril Avramov said that “for us it’s an honour to make this. First of all, to be connected to and to work very closely, I would say integrally, with one of the leaders of that industry. And number two, I think we share quite a lot of values and philosophies in common”.
The students will work on real-life business projects under the supervision of Fourth specialists and the lecturers from Informatics Department, New Bulgarian University. The programme has been developed in cooperation between the company and the university. Fourth’s IT laboratory is a replica of the Fourth working environment where students will get a hands-on experience of what it feels like working at Fourth.
“For us the investment in Sofia, Bulgaria, is not in just recruiting people. It’s to actually help build up the talent ourselves. We know that’s the only way forward”, said Christian Bethelsen
Assist. Prof. Kiril Avramov explained that “4th year students actually work with specialists and lecturers from the company. They receive projects, they’ve been tutored and they have the experience, or taster, in the safety of, if you will, the “bubble”, the university”. He further said that the relationship between the university and the company is mutually beneficial. “We sort of share the same ideas about the future – manageable projects which have feasible results”, he commented.
The partnership between Fourth and New Bulgarian University aims to be a bridge between education and industry. You could learn more about the partnership and its future development in the interview below.
